“Just walked through the latest progress on our e-learning course… you guys rock! I just can’t get over how you have been able to make this program look like “us” — and I can’t even begin to comprehend how our ideas are transformed into an actual interactive activity on the screen — it’s like magic! Your hard work and talent is very much appreciated.”

Need

Operation Lifesaver Inc. is a national, non-profit safety education group whose goal is to eliminate deaths and injuries at railroad crossings and along railroad rights-of-way. Operation Lifesaver wanted to address the unique challenges of training all types of truck drivers in the procedures for safe rail crossings and to increase safety and critical decision making.

They desired maximum student access through an appealing online learning experience to combat the statistics that show approximately one out of four railroad crossing crashes involves vehicles that require a Commercial Driver License (CDL) to operate; this includes all sizes of trucks from larger over-the-road vehicles, to your local delivery trucks.

Approach

In order to create lasting change for safety and decision making through Meaningful, Memorable, and Motivational learning, our focus was on presenting engaging and realistic challenges for the audience.

With such a wide range of experience, size, and type of trucks, we had to design multiple interactive learning modalities that created change and value for each learner.

Solution

Our solution consisted of creating promotional video materials, an interactive e-learning driving course, a traffic signs gamelette, and an integrated marketing plan.

Truck drivers, school bus drivers, first responders, and many other CDL vehicle drivers are able to make on-the-spot decisions regarding safety without any of the consequences. This e-learning training course has increased the performance of many drivers, increased safety levels, and saved many lives.

Results

We are honored that this course has been recognized by industry peers, earning many awards including the Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning – Best Custom Content Gold Award as well as an International Gold Davey Award. While the ultimate success of this training maybe measured by demonstrating a reduction in number of incidents and accidents at railroad crossings, we believe even a single life saved because of the training is a success.
